The links above will keep you specifically in or near Altoona and Blair County, part of the Allegheny Mountains of PA.

Blair County is located in the Heart of the Southern Alleghenies, where you will find wonderful things to do and see, warm and friendly people to help you along the way, and superb value and service for your money.

Attractions include intriguing historical sites, train museums, thrilling amusement parks and entertainment centers, cultural experiences and performances and all kinds of four season outdoor activities.

Horseshoe Curve is a three-track railroad curve. The curve itself is about 2,375-foot long and 1,300 feet in diameter; it was completed in 1854 by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a way to lessen the grade to the summit of the Allegheny Mountains. It eventually replaced the time-consuming Allegheny Portage Railroad, the only other route across the mountains for large vehicles. Horseshoe Curve was added to the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966, and became a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2004. Horseshoe Curve has long been a tourist attraction with a trackside observation park being completed in 1879.

Chimney Rocks is a natural wonder of Blair Township. It's prominent lime stone formation contaning one hundred and twenty perches. Now known as the "Look Out", the site consists of picnic areas where concerts and other community activities take place. Many of the trails have been improved, and handicap access is available to the picnic areas and one of the overlooks. Safety measures such as handrails and public rest room facilities have also been added, making Chimney Rocks an ideal stop to relax and enjoy the dynamic vista offered to visitors.

Overnight accommodations and restaurants offer the very best for a variety of tastes and budgets, and make every guest feel welcome. Blair County stores and shops provide a vast array of merchandise and shoppers will find everything from national chains and brands to locally made products and many one of a kind treasures. Blair County is also known far and wide for their fabulous antique shops and outlets.
